Yoga- When To Practice
(~~Back To Stress Information And Articles~~)
Yoga relaxation techniques should be practiced at least one time a day. The time of day to perform them can be determined by our schedule, daily routine and in relation to various events and activities. They are:
Before or after lunch- We need to take some time in order to let the metabolism adjust to the changes and demands of our daily life. Usually, we have been active in the morning, and before lunch is a good time to slow down. It is also a good time to do a few of the other techniques and postures that Yoga consists of. After lunch, if it is possible, a 20 minute stroll followed by relaxation practice has been found to be effective.
Upon returning from work and before dinner- This is an important time to practice, because at times, it is upon our return from work that some individuals may feel and be experiencing the most stress. Some may rush to drugs, or food, or the television to alleviate those stressful feelings, thereby further unbalancing and disturbing the mind and body.
Before going to sleep at night- Individuals having a difficult time falling asleep at night will find that the relaxation practice calms the mind and body so sleep comes more easily. Too many times our pre-sleep activities may consist of things that excessively agitate or dull the mind. We may be going to sleep regretting a lack of companionship or sex or carrying over feelings from the day's events and worry about tomorrow and the future. Yoga relaxation techniques assist one in letting go of these feelings and seeing them from a wider and more skilled perspective.
