In Loving Memory Of Angel
December 2003- February 2004

Some people spend their whole life trying to figure out the meaning of life. This search starts in childhood and we often sing with our kids and tell them the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's all about. Later we forget the "Hokey Pokey" and decide that what it's really all about is money or power or material things. There is a theory that babies are born into this world full of all the knowledge and wisdom of the universe, but that as we grow older we push that far down inside and forget. They say that there are life events that can remind us of what we are born with and bring that knowledge back to the surface. Angel's presence made it very easy to believe that theory.

Angel reminded us that real beauty can be felt, not just seen. Beauty is love that you can feel. You can feel it in your arms when you hold it and you can feel it in your heart if you are brave enough to be open to it. A more beautiful child than Angel never graced this earth.

Angel reminded us of what strength and grace really look like. Because of her, Stevie and Carla got to show the rest of us how to not waste a single minute. Every moment of Angel's life was wrapped in love and not taken for granted. Thank You Stevie and Carla for reminding us that true grace is recognizing and appreciating blessings.

Angel reminded us that the length of one's life does not determine it's worth. A short time on earth does not in any way lessen the quality of the love that life brings to the world. We could all ask ourselves if we will touch as many lives in our lifetime as positively as Angel did in hers.

Angel reminded us that fear divides us and that love brings us together. She touched and brought closer, not only the lives and hearts of her family, but those of doctors, nurses, friends, children and strangers. Stevie and Carla and Carol and their family were so generous in letting Angel's life touch others, and I stand in awe of them.

They say that some people come into your life and stay, while others come and go quickly but change your life forever. That certainly is true of Angel and none of us will ever be the same. I feel honored and privileged that Angel's life touched my family's. We must continue to ask ourselves what we are afraid of, and to not let that fear keep us from letting other lives touch ours.

Stevie and Carla don't want to say good-bye to Angel, and neither do I. So I won't. I'll just say, " See you later, Sweet Angel, and Thank You for coming. Thank You for reminding us that LOVE really is what it's all about."
